Globally known as the “Pharmacy of the World,” India supplies approximately 20% of the world’s generic medicines and over 50% of its vaccines. The country’s massive manufacturing capacity caters to 40% of generic medicine requirements in the USA, 25% of medicines in the UK, and 60% of UNICEF’s vaccine needs. Due to large-scale production and affordable pricing, India has made life-saving medicines accessible to the common man across more than 190 countries worldwide. Gujarat serves as the main engine of this national pharmaceutical prowess, contributing over 30% to India’s total pharma turnover and nearly 28% to its exports. The state boasts more than 4,000 active manufacturing units.
During this event, 6 special sessions were conducted addressing the core challenges of the pharma sector, such as product quality, production speed, data integrity, and global regulatory approvals. The first session focused on the overview of the Digital Thread for Pharmaceuticals, while the second session covered Digital R&D and Scientific Data Foundation. Subsequently, the third session explained a revolutionary technique utilizing simulation-driven product and process design to accelerate drug discovery and formulation processes, thereby reducing product time-to-market by 20% to 30%.

The fourth session of the event provided guidance on ‘Right-First-Time’ production, Electronic Batch Records (EBR), and smart manufacturing (MES/MOM). The fifth session offered insights into low-code digital innovation for pharma. In the sixth session, Technical Lead Pawan Kallurkar presented seamless methodologies to comply with regulations of global bodies like the USFDA, EMA, and PMDA with zero defects by leveraging Industrial AI.
The attending experts unanimously stated that by adopting these modern digital solutions, pharma companies can improve drug quality, simplify audit processes through paperless systems, and significantly reduce production costs.
A business networking session was also organized during the event, where stalwarts of the pharma sector from Ahmedabad and surrounding areas exchanged ideas and welcomed this digital transformation of the pharmaceutical industry. The primary objective of Khodiyar Technovation Pvt. Ltd. behind this initiative, in collaboration with Siemens, is to make Indian pharma industries smarter, safer, and future-ready on a global scale.
