Ahmedabad: In a historic sporting achievement for the city, Kush, an Ahmedabad-raised cloud engineer currently based in Chicago, completed his first-ever full Ironman triathlon at the 24th annual IRONMAN Wisconsin on September 13, 2026. Regarded as North America’s top Ironman event and one of the world’s five most grueling single-day endurance races, the 226.3 km event demanded an unbroken chain of physical grit: a 3.8 km open-water swim in Lake Monona, a punishing 180.2 km bicycle ride featuring 5,584 feet of hill climbing, and a full 42.2 km marathon run. Kush crossed the finish line at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard under the backdrop of the illuminated Wisconsin State Capitol in 14 hours and 19 minutes, earning the world-renowned title, “You are an Ironman”. His feat carries a proud local resonance as Gujarat itself prepares to host its first full-distance Ironman triathlon as part of the state’s broader sports infrastructure push heading into the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad.

Raised in Ahmedabad, Kush completed his schooling at GLS High School and studied at Nirma University before moving to the United States to earn his Computer Science degree from DePaul University in Chicago. Working a full-time 9-to-5 job as a cloud engineer while managing a rental real estate portfolio on the side, Kush built his way to the grueling distance through a disciplined four-year progression scheme. Starting with a short 25 km Sprint Triathlon in 2023, he systematically doubled his distance each year through an Olympic Triathlon in 2024 and a Half Ironman in 2025, ultimately multiplying his starting endurance distance ninefold to master the 226.3 km full Ironman. His training relied on 5:00 AM daily wake-ups, rigorous nutrition, recovery yoga, and contrast cold plunge and sauna therapies.
Despite experiencing mid-race mechanical setbacks including a dropped bike chain on steep 18% elevation hills and losing a pinky toenail during the marathon, Kush remained steadfast. Drawing upon deep spiritual strength when extreme exhaustion set in, he continuously recited the Hanuman Chalisa through the final grueling kilometers of the marathon to push past immense physical pain. A passionate 28-person support group consisting of his parents, family, and Chicago friends lined the Madison course wearing custom “Go Kush Go” shirts. Reflecting on his victory, Kush stated that the endurance mindset—breaking enormous goals into simple, baby-step milestones—serves as his ultimate framework for life, proving that an Amdavadispirit and unyielding discipline can conquer the world’s most daunting athletic stages.
