COLORS’ new sitcom ‘Zyada Mat Udd’ takes comedy to the skies with a quirky cabin crew and their endless misadventures. The show follows Goldie Khurana (Shehzad Shaikh), a spoiled heir forced to work undercover as a steward at Air-Aasman Airlines, where the biggest turbulence comes from its own crew. With Kajal (Helly Shah), an ambitious air hostess chasing luxury, and Shilpa (Aishwarya Sakhuja), a sharp-witted head stewardess keeping everyone in check, every flight is a recipe for disaster. Packed with eccentric passengers, outrageous mishaps, and non-stop laughter, ‘Zyada Mat Udd’ is a must-watch! Shehzad Shaikh shares his excitement about returning to COLORS, stepping into comedy, and bringing the bratty yet lovable Goldie to life.Excerpts from Shehzad’s interview:
- Tell us about the show.
‘Zyada Mat Udd’ is a madcap sitcom that takes comedy to the skies—literally! Set in the unpredictable world of aviation, it follows Goldie, a spoiled heir who had his inheritance on autopilot until a major turbulence hit, his father’s passing. To take over Air Aasman Airlines, he must prove himself by winning the Flight Attendant of the Year award, forcing him to go undercover as a rookie steward. Adding to the chaos is Kajal, a sharp and ambitious air hostess who believes her job is just a stepping stone to a luxurious life and is convinced that marrying rich is her golden ticket. Meanwhile, Shilpa, the tough-as-nails head stewardess, had dreams of being a Bollywood superstar but found herself managing a crew that’s more dramatic than any film set. At Air Aasman, passengers should worry less about turbulence and more about the spectacular incompetence of its crew! With bizarre in-flight mishaps, eccentric travelers, and a team that turns every flight into a comedy of errors, ‘Zyada Mat Udd’ is your boarding pass to non-stop laughter and high-altitude madness!
- Tell us about your character.
Goldie Khurana has spent his whole life in first class—literally and figuratively. He’s rich, entitled, and never had to lift a finger for anything. He was all set to inherit Air-Aasman Airlines when, suddenly, his world flipped upside down after his father’s demise. The airline’s board throws him an impossible challenge—before he can take over, he must win the ‘Flight Attendant of the Year’ award. That’s how Goldie becomes ‘Gopal,’ an undercover flight steward clueless about hard work, responsibility, or, honestly, how to even hold a tray properly! The fun part is that no one in the crew knows who he is. He’s completely out of his comfort zone, dealing with passengers, demanding bosses, and, of course, his eccentric coworkers. It’s a disaster waiting to happen—and that’s where all the comedy lies!
- What was your first reaction when you were offered this role?
I was instantly drawn to the sheer madness of it! It’s rare to find a sitcom set in aviation, and when I heard the premise, I knew it was something special. I’ve played romantic and intense roles before, but this was a refreshing change. The idea of a privileged heir struggling to survive in an airline crew was hilarious to me. Moreover, I loved that Goldie’s journey is not just comic fodder — it’s also about growth. He starts as this arrogant, fish-out-of-water character, but through all the chaos and setbacks, he begins to understand what it takes to truly earn something. That mix of humour and heart is what makes ‘Zyada Mat Udd’ so unique.
- Goldie is secretly the heir to the airline, but he’s disguised as a flight steward. What kind of challenges does that bring?
Imagine someone who has never carried his shopping bags suddenly being asked to serve tea, clean up messes, and take orders from passengers who are impossible to please! Goldie’s life turns into one embarrassment after another. He keeps slipping up—forgetting how to properly address passengers, getting tangled in seatbelts, accidentally spilling drinks—it’s just non-stop comedy. To make things even crazier, he has to keep his identity hidden from Kajal (Helly Shah) and Shilpa (Aishwarya Sakhuja), who make sure his life as ‘Gopal’ is anything but easy. Every time he thinks he’s got things under control, a new disaster strikes. It’s like watching a royal prince trying to survive boot camp!
- How did you prepare for this role?
Goldie has never worked a day in his life, and ironically, I’ve lived the exact opposite! Before acting, I was a cabin crew member with Kingfisher Airlines, so stepping into his shoes felt like a full-circle moment. Having grown up around aviation—thanks to my dad’s job at Jeddah Airport—I knew the world of flights, passengers, and mid-air chaos inside out. But while I was trained for it, Goldie is a walking disaster, completely clueless and spoiled. To make his struggle look real (and hilarious), I had to unlearn everything I knew about being a flight attendant. I studied sitcoms where privileged characters face reality checks and worked on my physical comedy—fumbling trays, getting tangled in seatbelts, and turning simple tasks into full-blown mishaps. Since I’ve lived both sides—first as a professional and now as an actor playing a total misfit—it made playing Goldie even more fun and personal for me.
- What’s your experience like working with the cast and COLORS?
Oh, it’s been fantastic! COLORS has always been special for me because I’ve worked with them before, and coming back feels like a homecoming. The channel has been a hub for great storytelling and being part of a show as fresh and unique as Zyada Mat Udd makes it even more exciting. The cast is incredible I have a fantastic equation with all my co-actors, and our off-screen camaraderie naturally spills onto the screen, making the banter even better. The entire team is so dedicated to bringing out the best comedy possible, and that energy is infectious. Every day on set feels like a party, and I think the audience will experience that joy in every episode. Returning to COLORS with such a quirky, high-energy show is truly special, and I can’t wait for viewers to take this madcap flight with us!
- What’s been the most exciting part of this journey for you?
Goldie is a character who is constantly reacting to crazy situations, and I never know what absurd thing he’ll have to do next. One day he’s pretending to be an expert on fine dining, the next he’s stuck in an overhead bin—there’s never a dull moment. Physical comedy is also something new for me, and I love the challenge of making people laugh through expressions, timing, and sometimes just pure clumsiness. Also, Goldie’s journey of transformation—watching him slowly realize that life isn’t just about privileges, but about earning respect—that part excites me.
- What makes ‘Zyada Mat Udd’ different from other sitcoms?
The show is a full-blown turbulence of laughter in the skies! The stakes are sky-high, the mishaps are completely unpredictable, and the characters are absolute chaos. You’ve got passengers with the weirdest demands, a crew that’s anything but competent, and a boss (Shilpa) who ensures no one catches a break. One moment you think things are under control, and the next, everything crashes (figuratively, of course!). And beyond all the madness, the show has heart. It’s about these characters navigating their messy, hilarious journeys. That’s what makes Zyada Mat Udd a ride worth boarding and you’ll never know what’s coming next!
- Any message for your fans?
Get ready for a rollercoaster at 30,000 feet—because Zyada Mat Udd is pure, unfiltered madness! This show is packed with laughs, chaos, and the kind of unexpected twists that will keep you hooked. Playing Goldie has been an absolute blast—watching him go from a spoiled heir to a clueless steward has been just as fun for me as it will be for you to watch. See you on board!
