COLORS’ upcoming drama ‘Meri Bhavya Life’ continues to build a powerhouse ensemble — and the latest to join its stellar cast is seasoned actor Iqbal Azad, stepping into the heartfelt and complex role of Vinay Singh, titular character’s father. The coming-of-age show challenges societal stereotypes around body image, self-worth, and acceptance. At its centre is Bhavya (played by Prisha Dhatwalia) — a gold medallist, an architect, and a plump woman who is left at the mandap by a man who only valued her for her father’s status. While she rebuilds her life with her confidence and talent, Rishank (essayed by Karan Vohra), a fitness-obsessed, validation-seeking young man is all set to dampen her spirit as her complete opposite.
Known for his understated gravitas and emotional depth, Iqbal brings to life the story of Vinay – Bhavya’s father, who has weathered life’s many storms with quiet resilience. Vinay is no ordinary father — he is a risk underwriter with an unshakable moral compass, having spent over two decades in the banking sector. Devoted father to two daughters, Bhavya and Nupur, Vinay’s sense of responsibility has always outweighed his concern for appearances. Whether it’s dealing with a nagging but loving wife, Uma, or sharing everyday banter with his childhood friend Nitin (played by Hiten Tejwani), Vinay’s world is rich with emotional undercurrents.
Talking about his return to COLORS and the role, Iqbal Azad shared, “I’ve had a wonderful association with COLORS for years now, and returning to the channel with Meri Bhavya Life feels incredibly special. This show is a mirror to the everyday battles people fight behind closed doors, especially when it comes to body shaming and societal perceptions around appearance. I’m proud to play Vinay, a father who has lived a life of integrity, responsibility, and sacrifice — and who values seerat over soorat. His bond with his daughter Bhavya is very emotional, rooted in shared strength and resilience. At a time when image often overshadows identity, I believe this show carries an important message. I hope it resonates with Indian households and inspires families to look beyond appearances and celebrate the values that really matter. Vinay is one of those rare characters that stay with you long after the camera cuts. I thank COLORS for giving me a chance to play a father who raises the standards of raising daughters.”
COLORS’ ‘Meri Bhavya Life’ will premiere on the 30th April and thereafter air every day at 7:00 PM only on COLORS
