Winning Teams to be Honored with Total Cash Prizes Worth ₹10 Lakh. - More Than 525 teams from 80 Universities from Various States; Over 2,000 Student Athletes to Compete in 15 Indoor and Outdoor Sports
Ahmedabad,January 2026: The prestigious national-level inter-university sports festival “Indus Cup 2K26” was inaugurated today with great enthusiasm and vibrant celebrations at Indus University, Ahmedabad. The grand opening ceremony marked the energetic beginning of one of the most awaited inter-university sporting events in the country.
Indus Cup 2K26 will be held from 5 to 10 January 2026, featuring participation from more than 525 teams from around 80 universities across various states of India. The tournament includes 15 indoor and outdoor sports disciplines, with over 2,000 student athletes competing and showcasing their sporting excellence. The winning teams will be awarded total cash prizes worth ₹10 lakh.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Nagesh Bhandari, Presidential Secretariat, highlighted the importance of sports in nurturing discipline, teamwork, and a spirit of healthy competition among students. Sharing insights from his personal journey, he motivated students by emphasizing that perseverance and determination are the true foundations of success.
A key highlight of the inauguration was the official unveiling of the Indus Cup 2K26 jacket. The ceremony concluded with the rendition of the National Anthem, followed by the formal commencement of various sporting competitions.
The event created an atmosphere of excitement, unity, and sportsmanship across the university campus. Dignitaries present noted that Indus Cup is not merely a sports competition, but a platform that promotes teamwork, talent, fair play, and national-level exposure for young athletes.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Dr. Ritu Bhandari (Presidential Secretariat), Dr. Sandeep Chakravarthy (Vice Chancellor – Executive President), Dr. R. K. Singh (Registrar), Dr. Suketu Jani (Deputy Registrar), Dr. Ketan Lakhtaria (Dean – iSAC), Prof. Ruchit Soni, Prof. Jaipalsinh Rana (Organizing Secretary – Indus Cup), along with faculty members and a large number of students.
