GenS Life’s ‘Kahaani Abhi Baaki Hai’ podcast presents a heartfelt tribute to Urmila Asher aka ‘Gujjuben’

National, May 8, 2025: GenS Life, a startup committed to empowering the 60+ to embrace vibrant and fulfilling lives, launches a special episode of its podcast series ‘Kahaani Abhi Baaki Hai’, honouring the extraordinary life and enduring legacy of Urmilaji Asher, affectionately known as ‘Gujjuben’.

Hosted by popular RJ, actor & writer Tarana Raja, the ‘Kahaani Abhi Baaki Hai’ podcast by GenS Life aims to amplify the voices and experiences of the 60+, challenging age stereotypes and celebrating lifelong ambition. This special tribute to Urmilaji perfectly embodies this mission, showcasing a woman who redefined age and purpose.

Urmilaji’s journey from nurturing her family through food, to becoming a MasterChef India contestant and social media sensation in her 70s is a story of unwavering passion, second chances, and quiet strength. Through this special episode, the podcast captures the many facets of a life lived with generosity, resilience, and flavour.

Urmilaji’s entrepreneurial spirit bloomed during the COVID-19 pandemic, when she started selling her homemade achar (pickles), achieving remarkable success with 500 jars sold in the initial months. She had always been the tireless support system for her family, especially during the most challenging times. Despite the difficulties the pandemic posed, she found a way to provide for her family, taking the reins with determination and compassion. Her journey from a home-cook to a small business owner was not just about creating products; it was a testament to her resilience and her commitment to supporting those she loved.

This episode goes beyond her public persona to uncover the essence of who Urmila truly was. Known for her comforting recipes and joyful presence on screen, she carried within her a lifetime of experience, balancing hardship with humour, responsibility with ambition. Whether it was rushing to the hospital to support someone in need or preparing meals to feed entire families, her acts of service were matched only by her humility. Her participation in MasterChef India wasn’t just a career highlight, it was a personal milestone that reflected her never-ending zest for life and the courage to dream, irrespective of age.

Her grandson, Harsh, offers a deeply personal reflection in the episode:

“She was working for more than 14 hours and that was surprising to me, how can a person aged 75-plus work non-stop like that? She never cared for herself; she lived for others. Whether someone needed emotional support or just a presence, she would go. In her mind, she was 40. Even though her body gave up eventually, I never saw a sad face on her. She was our strength.”

Through Harsh’s memories, listeners gain insight into the kind of woman Urmilaji was – selfless, energetic, and emotionally present for everyone in her orbit, even during her most challenging times. The ‘Kahaani Abhi Baaki Hai’ podcast was conceived by GenS Life to share exactly these kinds of powerful human stories of the 60+.

This tribute to Urmilaji Asher stands as a testament to living fully, loving deeply, and never underestimating the power of late beginnings. The episode is now streaming on Link, inviting audiences to celebrate the life of a woman who turned everyday moments into lasting legacies.

This special episode is part of a larger series of conversations with inspiring individuals over the age of 60 who continue to break barriers and live life on their own terms. As part of this ongoing journey, GenS Life has also had the privilege of recording conversations with renowned personalities such as Tiku Talsania, Sohrab Ardeshir, Avantika Akerkar, Ayaz Memon, Madhu Raja, Shameem Akhtar, Prahlad Kakkar, Sandip Soparrkar, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Binod Pradhan, Shashanka Ghosh, and Bhawna Somaaya. Their stories, coming soon on ‘Kahaani Abhi Baaki Hai’, promise to further celebrate the vibrancy, wisdom, and creative spirit of the 60+ community.

By showcasing such inspiring journeys, GenS Life’s ‘Kahaani Abhi Baaki Hai’ podcast aims at shifting perceptions and building a community that believes life’s significant chapters continue to unfold.
